TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) – New paramedic recruits in west Alabama are going through some of their most intense training yet.
International Trauma Life Support Training is underway right now at the Alabama Fire College, meaning students in the paramedic program are going through trauma training with live patients.
This is the last semester of paramedic training, so every decision they make and drill they go through is critical. Instructors want this to feel as real as possible because they will soon be in the field during medical emergencies.
Even helicopters are included in this round of training as paramedics must know how to properly place a patient onto a helicopter.
Instructors know that any mistakes recruits make now can be corrected, but mistakes with real patients can lead to bad outcomes…
