MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Carolina Bank is warning customers about an active phone scam after two local businesses reported calls from someone impersonating the bank.
The scammers are using a technique called spoofing, which allows them to display a real Carolina Bank phone number on the caller ID. While Carolina Bank owns the number, the scammer is making it appear as their own.
Scammers claim there is fraud on an account, suspicious activity, or a payment problem. They may ask customers to verify account information, share passwords, or read back a one-time security code sent to their phone. That code could give scammers access to accounts…
