New Lenox welcomes ‘Huey’ military helicopter for planned Flight Home Memorial

NEW LENOX, Ill. (WGN) – A Vietnam UH-1 helicopter, known commonly as a Huey, has arrived to what will be her home nest in the southwest suburbs.

On Feb. 2, 1968, five American servicemen – four sergeants and a lieutenant colonel – went down in a chopper just like the one that just arrived in New Lenox. The helicopter carrying the servicemen went down 12 miles outside of Danang.
