Crushers lose lead late, drop opener on rainy night

AVON — Lake Erie brought the hits, it just couldn’t turn enough of them into runs.

The Crushers racked up 11 hits but stranded seven as Schaumburg rallied for a 5-4 win on the Frontier League’s Opening Day at ForeFront Field on a rainy Friday evening. The teams will resume their three-game series Saturday night at 7 o’clock.

“I thought we competed pretty well,” Lake Erie manager Jared Lemieux said. “That was a well-fought game against a really good ballclub. They just got to us in the end. I thought we played pretty well all things considered. I liked our at-bats, just really happy with the boys’ effort tonight.”…
