Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill said Thursday she will seek to recuse a second Orleans Parish criminal court judge from all cases handled by her office in the wake of the July 2 indictment against her that special prosecutor Laurie White has since dismissed.
Murrill, whose office filed to recuse Judge Leon Roche from more than 50 criminal cases her prosecutors oversee in his court section, now wants Judge Simone Levine off dozens of AG cases as well, for “her comments from the bench,” Murrill said.
She said Levine has refused to produce a transcript of a hearing this week in a vehicular homicide case in which Murrill claims the judge began to attack the attorney general’s office. Levine “referred to the inconvenience created by the reassignment of Roche’s cases,” Murrill said.
The judge “then went on a rant making statements on the record about how the AG’s office was involved in the ‘political quagmire’ that resulted in elimination of her seat,” the attorney general said…
