Man involved in New Orleans mass jailbreak convicted of murder

A New Orleans judge has found one of the 10 men who escaped from the Orleans Parish Prison last year guilty of murder.

After a two-day bench trial, Orleans Criminal District Judge Robin Pittman late Tuesday convicted Lenton Vanburen Jr., 27, of second-degree murder, attempted obstruction of justice and attempted possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Vanburen last June opted to have Pittman rather than a jury decide his fate, district court records show. By then, he’d been captured and returned to custody after the jailbreak…
