After a week of searching Marrero backyard, man arrested on murder, disposal of body counts

Five days after authorities began digging in the backyard of a Marrero home as part of a missing person investigation, detectives have arrested a man neighbors identified as a former resident there, booking him with second-degree murder and unlawful disposal of remains, according to jail records.

Dustin Billot, 32, was taken into custody Friday by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. He was also booked with obstruction of justice.

Billot was being held Monday at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna, records showed. Bail was set at $575,000.

Authorities have not yet commented on the case or identified the apparent victim of the homicide investigation…
