NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Three years after a hit-and-run crash following Jazz Fest left her near death, Kat Elkins returned to work as a nurse.
Elkins, a Touro Hospital nurse, was critically injured in a hit-and-run at Claiborne and Esplanade while riding her bicycle home from Jazz Fest in 2023. Doctors did not think she would survive.
Her shattered bones are still healing. Her hair is growing back in. She said the hardest part of her recovery was not the injury, but the effects of her traumatic brain injury…
