NEW ORLEANS — A colorful pair of socks may seem simple, but for New Orleans entrepreneur Janna Hart Black, they’ve become a way to help people across the country.
Black is the founder of Bonfolk, a Magazine Street sock company known for its playful Louisiana-inspired designs featuring oysters, crawfish, beignets and streetcars. But behind the bright patterns is a larger mission: for every pair sold, Bonfolk donates another pair to someone in need.
“Socks are the number one requested item in shelters,” Black said. “People do not donate socks necessarily… but socks are something that you put on every day, and it’s necessary for your health, it’s necessary for your overall well-being.”…
