For the first time in its 109-year history, NASA’s Langley Research Center is opening its gates — inviting private developers to build on more than 325 acres of land in Hampton, Virginia.
Over the summer, Langley issued a “Request for Information” to gauge private-sector interest in developing the property. The land is divided into seven parcels available for lease, and NASA is looking for proposals that align with a central goal: creating an Aerospace Innovation District (AID) Hub.
Beth DiGiovanni, NASA Langley’s real estate lead, said the effort has been two decades in the making.
“For the first time in our 107 [109] years, uh, we are opening the gates,” DiGiovanni said. “Bringing in more of our capabilities to the center campus and that’s freed up a lot of land.”…
