NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton Roads experienced a third consecutive day of significant power outages Monday, affecting thousands of customers and disrupting operations for major regional employers across the Peninsula.
First and second shifts at Newport News Shipbuilding were instructed not to report to work on Monday following a massive outage at the shipyard. Normal operations resumed for the third shift.

Dominion Energy attributed the widespread disruptions to the recent nor’easter, which a spokesperson said carried salt spray inland, leading to salt accumulation on electrical equipment.
“When salt builds up, it creates another pathway for electricity to leak and flow into other areas where it’s not supposed to,” said Dominion Energy spokesperson Cherise Newsome. “It can cause short circuits, it can damage wires and poles, it can cause electrical sparks and fires.”…
