Weekend rain may spoil beach plans

(WAVY) — An incoming cold front may impact weekend beach plans. Here is how things are looking.

Friday is looking like the best day of the weekend. Sunny skies from start to finish. The only rain chance will be for areas well inland. High temperatures will be in the 80s to near 90. Make sure you pack plenty of water and sunscreen. Winds will be light west at 5-10 mph.

On Saturday, the morning hours will be dry with a mix of sunshine and clouds. The afternoon hours is when things get interesting as a cold front gets closer. This will allow for scattered showers and storms to develop. These storms will likely have lots of lightning with them, so if you plan on heading to the coast, it may be best to avoid the afternoon. Some storms may even contain heavy rainfall, which could lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas with poor drainage. Highs will be in the upper 80s through the midday hours before storms cool things off during the afternoon.

Sunday will be a repeat of Saturday, with dry weather to start followed by scattered afternoon storms. Sunday will be a cooler day as the cold front passes offshore. Highs will be in the 80s. Winds will also pick up so ocean conditions will be a bit choppy. Winds will be out of the northeast at 15-25 mph.

For the boaters, Friday is looking like the day to target, with smooth waters and abundant sunshine. Make sure you pack plenty of water to get through the heat and wear UV protected clothing to avoid a bad sunburn.

For the surfers, it looks like we will have quiet surf through the weekend, but there may be a few windows to target on a longboard during low tide…
