An out-of-towner has been sentenced after hitting a golf cart and fleeing the scene in The Villages.
Jodi Mientkiewicz, 52, of Florahome, pleaded no contest this past week in Sumter County Court to a charge of leaving the scene of an accident. She has been placed on probation for six months and has already completed a driver improvement course, according to court records.
She was at the wheel of a black 2020 Ford Explorer at about 7 p.m. March 8 when she struck a legally parked golf cart at Lake Sumter Landing Market Square, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. A passenger got out of the golf cart to confront Mientkiewicz, who looked at the passenger before she “rapidly drove off, leaving the area,” the report stated. Witnesses were able to snap photos of the Ford Explorer and its license plate.
A deputy looked up the license plate number and matched it to Mientkiewicz’s driver’s license photo. The passenger was then able to pick Mientkiewicz out of a photo lineup…
