A mere week ago, the Birmingham Stallions and the UFL playoffs could not be used in the same sentence, unless the word elimination were to have been included. Thanks to a series of developments involving outcomes of games that aided the Stallions considerably, Birminghams 20-17 upset of Orlando today at Inter & Com Stadium have the Stallions firmly entrenched in contending for one of the four UFL playoff spots.
Led by recently acquired quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson’s sensational performance, Birmingham managed not only to snap a four game losing skid, but also catapult themselves into the playoff conversation. The Stallions trail the Dallas Renegades by one game with four left still to play.
Currently, Birmingham is involved in a four way tie for fifth place along with Louisville, Columbus, and Houston. The Stallions have the tie breaker edge over Louisville, having defeated the Kings in Week One at Lynn Family stadium. Houston, however, currently owns the tiebreaker over Birmingham with their 22-20 victory over the Stallions in Week Two. Birmingham has yet to face Columbus, but will play the Aviators in back to back games in Weeks 8 and 9.

The Stallions look like a completely different football team since Thompson-Robinson took over the reigns of the starting quarterback position. He performed exceptionally well today against one of the best defensive teams in the UFL, passing for 271 yards and a touchdown. Since taking over the starting quarterback position last week, he has completed 67% of his passes for 584 yards and three touchdowns with two interceptions…
