A 60-year-old Olathe man pleaded guilty this week to stealing gift cards and mail while working at a postal facility in Overland Park, following a witness tip. David Alan Boutte entered his plea to one count of theft or receipt of stolen mail in federal court in Kansas City, Kansas, admitting he took gift cards from mail that wasn’t addressed to him. He is scheduled for sentencing on January 15, 2027.
The case against Boutte, who worked at the Blue Valley Post Office in Overland Park, began with a witness tip. According to KCTV, the USPS Office of Inspector General received a tip concerning Boutte and four opened, postmarked letters that weren’t addressed to him.
Search Warrant Findings
Investigators later obtained a search warrant for Boutte’s home.
Court documents cited by the station describe officers finding more than $1,600 in cash, 141 gift cards, letters addressed to other people, a USPS master key and a facility key among Boutte’s belongings.
