Fentanyl dealer convicted in SW Portland overdose death

A federal jury on Monday found that Hugo Gomez-Soto sold fentanyl to a Southwest Portland man in late December 2023 that caused his sudden death.

The 12-member jury deliberated for about 90 minutes before returning the verdict after a six-day trial before U.S. District Judge Amy Baggio.

Gomez-Soto, 51, of Honduras was prosecuted under the Len Bias law, named after a University of Maryland basketball player who died of a cocaine overdose in 1986. The conviction carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years to life…
