Oregon doctor says he has tested positive for hantavirus

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — An Oregon resident has been transported to Nebraska for risk assessment and monitoring following exposure to the hantavirus while aboard the M/V Hondius cruise ship.

The Oregon Health Authority confirmed to KOIN 6 News on Tuesday that the Centers for Disease Control notified them of the exposure.

OHA said it is closely monitoring the cluster of hantavirus cases associated with the cruise. Though the agency did not identify the individual, Bend resident Dr. Stephen Kornfield made headlines last week when Congresswoman Janelle Bynum named him as a passenger on the ship.
