Witnesses Report Erratic Driving Before Violent US 70 Crash

WILSON’S MILLS, N.C. — A Smithfield man is accused of driving while impaired when his white SUV slammed into a blue Volkswagen on U.S. 70 Friday evening, sending the car airborne, injuring four people, and leaving him facing multiple charges.

Wilson’s Mills Police Chief A.Z. Williams said the collision occurred around 7:58 p.m. on July 10 on U.S. 70 East near Wilson’s Mills Road.

According to the investigation, Oscar Perez-Cordova, 27, of Buffalo Road, Smithfield, was driving a white SUV eastbound on U.S. 70 when witnesses observed him traveling at a high rate of speed, driving erratically, and failing to maintain his lane.

At the same time, a blue Volkswagen passenger car carrying one adult and two juvenile passengers had entered U.S. 70 from Wilson’s Mills Road and merged into the outside eastbound lane…
