Reno-Sparks Indian Colony declares emergency as Hungry Valley faces mandatory evacuation

With wildfire threats continuing near Hungry Valley, the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony (RSIC) has implemented a Declaration of Emergency tied to the Bug and Fred Mountain fires and the ongoing danger to the community.

The declaration is intended to strengthen coordination and help the colony access critical resources from tribal, local, state and federal emergency response partners as efforts continue to protect people, homes, cultural resources and the broader community.

A mandatory evacuation and complete closure of Hungry Valley remain in effect. All roads into Hungry Valley are closed, and residents are being told not to attempt to return until the evacuation order is officially lifted.

Hungry Valley Fire, RSIC Tribal Police, Incident Command and responding emergency crews remain on-site conducting firefighting and emergency operations.
