Anonymous parent speaks out on the arrest of Andrew Lewis Middle School instructional assistant

Salem Instructional Assistant has been arrested

WDBJ 7 reported that Andrew Lewis Middle School in Salem, Virginia received a complaint on January 4, 2024, accusing Jaquese Whorley an instructional assistant, of unlawful contact with two female students under the age of 15.

Whorley was arrested by the Salem Police Department on January 8th for two counts of indecent liberties with children and two counts of using a communications system to facilitate certain offenses involving children.

Mike Stevens, the communications director for the city of Salem, said Jaques worked for the Salem School system from October 2022 until January 4th when the complaint was filed (per WSBT News).

The anonymous parent is shocked by the school’s response

WDBJ recently spoke to a parent who wanted to remain anonymous and was shocked the school district did not notify all parents of the situation.

“I mean, he was a special education teacher. That should have been it, [they] didn’t have to go into detail, but they at least needed to let us know that something like that had happened in the school, considering when we send our kids to school there. It’s their job to keep them safe,” said an anonymous parent.
