Upstate New York Man Arrested for Driving a Rideshare in a Stolen Vehicle

Stolen Ridehare

On April 9th, a couple was enjoying a dinner, and requested a rideshare back to their home in Rochester. They were picked up by Malik Scales, another Rochester resident. On the drive back, the car was flagged by a License Plate Reader.

Upon inspection, the car was flagged as stolen, and Scales was pulled over. All three in the car (including the passengers) were detained and questioned on site. Luckily, the two passengers were let go, but Scales had a lot to answer for.

How Do You Rideshare With a Stolen Car?

Obviously, there are some questions left unanswered. Upon questioning, Scales stated that he was unaware that the vehicle was stolen. He claimed he purchased the car for $300 on Lyell Avenue, which would clear him of any guilt.

Obviously, that can’t be done immediately, so Scales was processed and let go, being charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 4th Degree, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 3rd Degree…
