Gas prices update: Rochester’s average hits $4.18 per gallon as U.S. prepares for blockade

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester’s average gas price rose to $4.18 per gallon on Monday, as the U.S. Navy prepares to block ships from passing through the Strait of Hormuz amid the war with Iran.

Rochester’s average remains higher than the national average, $4.13 per gallon on Monday, according to AAA’s latest report. While the national average has risen by 1 cent since last Monday, Rochester’s average has risen by 14 cents. It comes as the war with Iran enters a seventh week.

Overall, Rochester has seen the sharpest spike in gas prices since March of 2022, during the pandemic era, which is impacting consumer behavior. News10NBC has spoken with people who are choosing to drive less and to stay home for vacations because of the high gas prices. It’s also been hard on drivers who use their own cars for work.
