Guide to summer R-Center activities, youth camps, and pool activities

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — With summer vacation just over a month away for students in Rochester, the City of Rochester has released its lineup of summer activities for youth.

The lineup includes camps at R-Centers, swimming at public pools, sports programs, and the BizKid$ entrepreneurship camps. There are also some summer activities for adults. You can see a complete list and sign up here. Here’s your guide to some of the activities happening from Monday, June 29, through Friday, Aug. 21:

R-Center activities

R-Centers will hold activities from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and will serve children and teens breakfast and lunch. For kids 6 to 17, there’s the “Summer Play Days” series, with activities including hiking, biking, swimming, crafting, gardening, and field games.

For kids ages 12 to 16, there’s the “Hope Heatwave Summer Sports Weeks”, where they can try multiple sports, including basketball, volleyball, baseball, football, pickleball, ultimate frisbee, and cheer. You can see a list of R-Centers here.

Youth camps

R-Centers and other places in Rochester will hold weekly camps. That includes R-Camps, where youth ages 6 to 11 can take part in outdoor activities, arts, dance, and nature exploration. The camps are happening at Lake Riley Lodge, Genesee Valley Field House, or the brand-new Maplewood Nature Center that will open this summer…
