ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Serb Fest recently celebrated its 25th year at the Holy Ascension Serbian Orthodox Church in Rockford. The annual event, which moved its schedule from September to June this year, aims to promote and share Serbian culture, faith and music with the community.
The festival features a variety of activities, including traditional food, folklore performances and entertainment for children. Organizers emphasize that everyone is welcome to attend and experience Serbian heritage.
Darko Gligorevic, president of the board for the Holy Ascension Serbian Orthodox Church, stated that the change in timing from September to June was made to improve weather conditions for the event. “We used to have hours in September, but we just recently changed. And actually, this is our first year that we changed it, our 25th year.” The primary purpose of Serb Fest is to offer a cultural experience, according to Gligorevic. “The purpose of Serb Fest is, really, Serbian culture. To meet, to listen to Serbian music, to see, try Serbian food.” Gligorevic explained. “So, it’s pretty much a little Serbia, or like a taste of Serbia in one place.” The festival offers a range of activities, including sports tournaments and live music…
