Freeport buildings set for major exterior upgrades

Several downtown Freeport buildings are set for renovations after receiving funding from the annual Façade Improvement Grant.

The Freeport Art Museum, Deininger’s Floral Shop and a building at 2 W. Spring St. are among the recipients, according to a community announcement.

Art museum to revamp exterior

The Freeport Art Museum, located at 22 E. Exchange St., will undergo major renovations. Plans include a new main entrance, doors, windows and a canopy. The project aims to increase foot traffic downtown and preserve the historic property.

Future retail, apartments in works for W. Spring St. structure

The building at 2 W. Spring St. will be transformed into two retail spaces on the first floor and two residential apartments on the second floor. The first-floor garage will provide parking for tenants. Exterior work will include repairing and repainting the stucco to its original white color, adding new windows and an awning.

Floral shop to get new look

Deininger’s Floral Shop at 1 W. Main St. will see the installation of a decorative awning and lighting to enhance its appearance while preserving its historical character.
