Stellantis increases Belvidere investment to over $800M for next Jeep Cherokee

BELVIDERE, Ill. (WTVO) — Stellantis announced Thursday that the next-generation Jeep Cherokee will be the first vehicle built in the United States on the company’s new STLA One vehicle platform, with production slated for the Belvidere Assembly Plant as the long-idled facility moves closer to reopening.

The automaker said it now expects to invest more than $800 million in the Belvidere plant, an increase of $200 million from the $600 million investment previously announced in October 2025.

The announcement marks another significant step toward restarting production at the Boone County factory, which has been at the center of economic and labor discussions since Stellantis idled the facility in 2023. Company officials said work to prepare the plant for production is already underway…
