Police use TASER to subdue armed suspect after foot chase early Tuesday

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A Rockford Police officer used a TASER to stop an armed suspect after the city’s gunshot detection system summoned authorities to 9th and Broadway just after midnight Tuesday.

According to Rockford Police, a ShotSpotter notification alerted officers to a gunshot fired near the corner of 9th Street and Broadway at 12:10 a.m. When officers arrived, the suspect, Jeaven Garrett, 29 of Rockford, fled the scene, police said.

A foot chase ensued, with Garrett being warned by the officer to stop or the officer would tase him. Garrett continued to run from the officer, and a taser was used. He was then taken into custody…
