Off-duty St. Louis fire captain saves daughter’s life thanks to phone alert

IMPERIAL, Mo. — He responds to emergencies for a living, but nothing could prepare St. Louis Fire Capt. Jake Brockmeier for the automated crash alert he received from his own daughter’s phone.

On a stormy Tuesday last week around 9:30 p.m., 17-year-old Alyssa Brockmeier was just minutes from her home in Imperial when her drive ended in a devastating collision.

“It was wet pavement and she was kind of coming around a curve and she just skidded right into the truck coming the other way. So she just slid across the lanes into the front of his truck,” Brockmeier said…
