St. Louis city jail loses power as heat wave shocks the region

After the St. Louis City Justice Center lost power for several hours on Friday, officials said the issue has been resolved.

Jail leaders said they worked with Ameren to restore building electricity as a heat wave sweeps across the region. Power was restored at 3:50 p.m.

They said the outage appears to have been caused by a power surge. Detainees were provided extra ice and water to drink during the outage. Jail officials said they also made extra rounds to check on detainees to mitigate risk from the heat…
