ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – The city of St. Louis is moving to demolish a vacant school building that residents say has long been a magnet for crime.
The Carr School, located north of downtown at 15th and Carr streets, has been closed for more than 40 years and was recently the scene of a violent crime. The city’s decision to condemn the building follows a First Alert 4 investigation into the dangers the abandoned property poses to the neighborhood.
An emergency inspection in July led the city to issue an emergency condemnation notice on July 31, citing about a dozen violations. The city opened demolition bids on Aug. 5, which are scheduled to close Friday and be reviewed next week…
