ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – Dozens of people, including clergy and faith leaders, gathered in downtown St. Louis on Monday to pray, share stories and lay out a list of demands for Missouri leaders. The group brought those demands outside the downtown federal building that houses the Immigration and Customs Enforcement office.
Sara Ruiz, executive director of the Ashrei Foundation, said the organization is calling for independent, recurring oversight of the four Missouri county jails holding people for ICE.
“Last week, Greene County jail hit its highest record of people detained by ICE,” Ruiz said. “It is important for people of faith and goodwill to gather and continue witnessing the harm that is happening in our community.”…
