Utah Weather: A few rain showers for Thursday, warmer temperatures into weekend

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Thursday, Utah! Seasonable to slightly below average temperatures today with chances for isolated showers and thunderstorms.

Today’s weather: Rain showers and isolated t-storms

A trough will slide through the northeastern portions of the state today; this will bring chances for isolated showers and thunderstorms across the Cache Valley, Wasatch Front, and Uintas. Many of these storms will be general thunderstorms, though cannot rule out the possibility of a few gusty winds up to 50 mph and some small hail.

This system will bring some gusty winds across portions of Southern Utah along with dry conditions persisting. A Red Flag Warning is in effect for the Colorado River Basin from 1pm until 7pm today with winds gusting up to 30 mph and low relative humidities.

This system will keep daytime highs slightly cooler along the Wasatch Front with highs in the mid to upper 60’s. Across Southern Utah, highs will remain warmer as dry conditions remain in place with sunshine and highs warming into the 80’s.

Memorial Weekend: Much warmer and drier conditions

Just as quickly as this system moves into the region, it will quickly move out with rain showers ending by the late evening hours and wind gusts coming back down. A ridge of high pressure that has been sitting off the Pacific will move onshore and into the southwest for this Memorial Day Weekend.
