Downtown property owner drops suit against city over disputed parklet

A downtown developer who sued Palo Alto over its recently adopted parklet policy has withdrawn the complaint after the city agreed to give it some leeway on a new commercial project, according to court records.

The city has been facing a legal challenge from Elizabeth Wong and her company Ramona Post LP, which sought more than $600,000 in damages from the city. The company took issue with the city allowing Coupa Café to build a parklet near its Ramona Street location that extends beyond the café’s frontage.

In the complaint, Wong had maintained that because of the parklet, the value of her commercial building at 532-536 Ramona St. has diminished. She contended that the parklet has made it harder for her to finalize her lease. The parklet, she argued, constitutes a “private nuisance” by obstructing her own building…
