A normal Monday night near a Santa Rosa shopping center turned into the kind of public safety story that makes residents look twice at familiar parking lots, late errands, and the quiet corners of their own neighborhood.
Police say an adult woman was standing near the driveway of a retail shopping center in the 3000 block of Marlow Road when a masked man approached on foot and opened fire. Within minutes, bystanders were trying to save her life, officers were rushing in, and detectives were beginning what would become Santa Rosa’s first homicide investigation of 2026.
Now, two Lake County residents are in custody, and police say a trail of security footage, a suspect vehicle, and an automated license plate reader helped move the case from gunfire reports to arrests in less than 15 hours.
What happened on Marlow Road?
According to Santa Rosa police, multiple 911 callers reported hearing gunshots around 9:15 p.m. on June 8 in the 3000 block of Marlow Road. As officers headed to the scene, dispatchers received more information that a woman had been struck by gunfire.
Police say bystanders rushed to help and began CPR before officers arrived. Less than five minutes after the first emergency call, an officer reached the scene and took over lifesaving efforts until medical crews arrived.
The woman was later pronounced dead. Authorities have not publicly released her name, saying her identity must be confirmed by the coroner and her family must be notified first.
