SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – For years, Heather Hackett was the person who showed up when other people were facing their darkest days.

The Sarasota humanitarian and disaster relief advocate is in the fight of her life after being diagnosed with stage IV metastatic melanoma that has spread to her brain, liver and lungs.

Diagnosis came weeks after minor health issue

Her family says the diagnosis came just weeks after what seemed like a minor health issue. Hackett had a small spot removed about a month ago and believed the melanoma had been caught.
