Chuck and Sandy White of Shreveport have been selling homegrown tomatoes—not grown on a farm but in their own backyard—for 30 years now, beginning at the original Shreveport Farmers Market under the Texas Street bridge.
For the last five years, you may have seen them set up in front of Drug Emporium in Shreveport. Their sign reads, “Homegrown Tomatoes – Cash Only (or Fresh Fish).”
Chuck told The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate he estimates they will still have the stand open for a couple more weeks, until tomato season ends. “We’ve been lucky. Made it to August a couple of times,” he said. And they’ll be back again around the first of June next year.
