Spokane City Council members introduce tenant protections for wildfire victims

SPOKANE, Wash. — Three Spokane City Council members introduced an emergency ordinance Tuesday to protect income-eligible tenants from eviction for nonpayment of rent. The protection was introduced by Kitty Klitzke, Sarah Dixit and Paul Dillon during the Finance and Administration Committee meeting.

“This ordinance will help prevent more displacement and confusion due to the Spokane Complex Fires,” said Council Member Paul Dillon. “It is critical renters have further protections during this time of crisis.”

Klitzke recognized that many people impacted by the fires are “seniors on a fixed income or families living paycheck to paycheck.”…
