SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane County Fire District 9 (SCFD9) held a ceremony on Wednesday to dedicate the U.S. Highway 395 bridge over Wandermere Road as a memorial, honoring District 9 Lieutenant and Paramedic Cody Traber, who died responding to a brush fire in the area in August 2021.
The dedication was first proposed in December 2024, receiving approval from the district’s Board of Fire Commissioners in 2025, as well as support from the Washington State Transportation Commission and the Washington State Department of Transportation.
“This bridge will stand as a lasting reminder of Cody’s dedication to serving others and the difference he made in the lives of his family, friends, colleagues, and community,” SCFD9 officials stated. “Everyone who crosses it will have an opportunity to see his name and remember the legacy he left behind.”…
