Spokane County commissioners vote to keep Patricia Simonet dog park open

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — County officials announced on Tuesday that the Patricia Simonet Laughing Dog Park will remain open after the Board of Commissioners voted to rescind a termination notice tied to the site’s lease with the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).

Board Chair Mary Brooks said commissioners heard strong feedback from people who use the park after the notice was released in October 2025.

“The Board of County Commissioners received dozens of emails and phone calls from those who use the dog park and were dismayed that it would be closing. We heard you – and the dog park will remain open as staff works to find a long-term solution with the Department of Transportation,” Brooks said…
