Washington enters ‘dangerous stage’ of measles spread, health officials warn

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Washington state health officials are raising concerns about the potential undetected spread of measles in the state — leading to a “dangerous stage” in measles spread.

The Washington Department of Health announced Thursday that measles cases are continuing to increase in Washington, including three recent cases that have no known source of exposure. Two of those cases are in Kittitas County while the other is from Spokane County.

The DOH says after a thorough investigation, health officials were unable to identify how those three patients were exposed to measles. This could mean measles is spreading undetected in Washington communities, officials said.
