Texas Deputy Fired After Fatal Shooting of 18-Year-Old College Freshman Sparks Outrage

Lake Jackson, Texas — A Brazoria County sheriff’s deputy has been fired following the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old Texas State University student, a case that has drawn growing public attention as investigators work to determine exactly what happened during the encounter.

Sheriff Bo Stallman announced Tuesday that Deputy Kevin Tippit was terminated from his position following an internal investigation into the death of John Mendoza Jr., a freshman at Texas State University who was killed on June 1.
