Combating Drug Trafficking: Illinois State Police’s Remarkable Year in Seizures and Arrests

Springfield, Illinois – In a significant stride towards combatting drug trafficking and associated violence, the Illinois State Police (ISP) Metropolitan Enforcement Groups (MEGs) and Drug Task Forces have achieved remarkable success throughout 2022. The collaborative efforts among state, federal, and local law enforcement agencies have led to the seizure of 679 firearms, 26,679 pounds of drugs, and the arrest of 1,942 individuals across Illinois.

Collaborative Efforts Yield Significant Results

The ISP MEGs and Drug Task Forces are instrumental in enforcing Illinois drug laws and investigating gang activity. The teams’ focus is on the front lines of narcotic enforcement, prevention, and treatment strategies. In 2022, various units under these groups made significant arrests and seizures:

  • Blackhawk Area Task Force seized 21 guns and 181 pounds of narcotics.
  • Central Illinois Enforcement Group confiscated 113 guns and 6,456 pounds of drugs.
  • DuPage MEG reported 53 guns and 640 pounds of narcotics seized.
  • Kendall County Cooperative Police Assistance Team made 249 arrests, seizing 16 guns and 1,464 pounds of drugs.
