STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Students from Eden II Programs and Our Lady Queen of Peace School came together last week for a ‘Light It Up Blue’ carnival at Eden II’s Little Miracles Preschool, marking Autism Awareness Month with activities centered on inclusion and community.
The event continued a partnership that began during Catholic Schools Week on Jan. 29. Eden II students joined eighth-graders from Our Lady Queen of Peace School for breakfast, arts and crafts, and shared activities at that earlier gathering.
“Events like our ‘Light It Up Blue’ carnival are so important because they allow our students to experience the joy of childhood in a supportive, inclusive and sensory-friendly environment,” said Lauren Grimaldi of Eden II Programs. “But even more than that, they give our students the opportunity to build real connections. Watching them interact, laugh, and simply be kids together is something truly special.”
The April celebration featured students from both programs participating together in carnival activities. Staff from both schools worked alongside one another to support participation and create a welcoming environment.
Principal Margaret O’Connor of Our Lady Queen of Peace School said the experiences highlight the importance of celebrating inclusion.
“Our students and staff valued the opportunity to learn from one another and build meaningful connections with the Eden II community,” O’Connor said. “When we come together, we are stronger.”…
