Cheladas Melt Down in 11-Inning Loss

FRESNO, Calif. – The Ports (29-25, 56-64) dropped the series finale in walk-off fashion, despite big performances from Gavin Turley and Josiah Romeo. Stockton had a seven-run lead, but could not hold on as the loss clinched the series for Fresno, (29-25, 66-55) and tied the two teams in the California League North second-half standings.

Stockton opened the scoring in the second on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Ramon Landaeta, bringing in Bryan Andrade to make it 1-0. The Ports added another in the third on an Andrade sacrifice fly to make it 2-0. It was another steady addition on a Drew Burress RBI single to make it 3-0 before a big Gavin Turley grand slam (13) gave the Ports a 7-0 lead in the fourth.

Fresno’s first response came on a Daniel Jackson RBI single in the bottom of the fourth. It would be the lone run allowed by Josiah Romeo in his five innings of work, allowing three hits with one walk and five strikeouts…
