Syracuse, N.Y. – Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon today proposed to consolidate jail operations in suburban Jamesville – not downtown Syracuse – to free up space for what he described as an enhanced “convention center district” in the southern part of downtown.
The new jail concept is among several proposals unveiled Thursday evening in McMahon’s 2026 State of the County address. McMahon also plans to provide 30 acres of vacant county land for housing, devote more county money to housing subsidies and develop a county-owned solar farm, among other initiatives.
