2 killed in fiery, explosive crash in Lakewood after speeding into a power pole

LAKEWOOD, Wash. — A driver and passenger were killed early Saturday after a speeding vehicle crashed into a power pole and railroad crossing equipment before bursting into flames in the Tacoma area, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 1:20 a.m. after a vehicle traveling westbound on 74th Street at a very high rate of speed passed a Lakewood police officer, Lakewood police Sgt. Charles Porche said.

Before the officer could catch up after activating emergency lights and siren, the vehicle crossed lanes and crashed into a power pole and railroad crossing infrastructure near 74th Street and South Tacoma Way, Porche said…
