At around 7:30 am on August 29, 2026, a Pierce County Sheriff’s Office deputy spotted a white BMW SUV traveling south on Pacific Avenue South. The vehicle was already going fast enough for officials to step in, but this seemingly mundane crime could have posed a much greater threat.
Deputies around the area were informed that a white BMW SUV had recently been stolen at gunpoint in Tacoma. That wasn’t all, because dispatch told deputies that a white BMW could be connected to several car prowls that also involved firearms. Not to mention, the occupants of the vehicle were reportedly involved in a crime spree that had been ongoing all night.
Keeping all of this in mind, the deputy decided to initiate pursuit, prompting the BMW to accelerate to more than 100 MPH. The vehicle swerved into a ditch, lost two tires, and generally put multiple civilians in danger before ultimately stopping. Three juveniles reportedly ran from the BMW on foot, but it didn’t take long for deputies to quickly catch all three.
According to deputies, two firearms were in plain view inside the vehicle. Paired with the high-speed chase, it makes sense that the two 14-year-olds and the 16-year-old were booked into Remann Hall, a juvenile detention facility. Commentators were quick to point out the similarities with crime-filled media promoting acts of violence to teenagers, including the Grand Theft Auto series.
Their Connection to the Wider Crime Spree Remains Unclear
While those who learned about the crime mostly agree that it’s too unlikely to be a coincidence, the suspects were not necessarily the ones to commit every crime in the reported overnight spree.
