Washington communities are taking action to reduce food waste and support a healthier, more resilient food system. Food Waste Prevention Week runs now through Sunday, October 4 th , with events statewide, including in Bellingham, Renton, Tukwila, Carnation and Spokane County (see below for details).

The state Department of Ecology says tribes, community groups, local governments, farmers markets, colleges and nonprofits are offering cooking demonstrations, food-storage workshops, gleaning events, children’s activities and webinars. Organizers say preventing food waste can help families save money, strengthen food security and reduce climate pollution.  For tips from Ecology on how to prevent food waste in your home, and save some money, visit the Department’s Website.
