TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A Toledo woman says she lost $167 after attempting to renew her passport through a third-party website called GovAssist, which she now believes may be a scam.
The woman, who asked to be identified by her first name only as Lynn, said she filled out her application and submitted payment through the site’s online portal. Shortly after, she received a packet in the mail stating there was an error with her application.
Red flag at the library
Her suspicions grew when she visited the Sylvania Library to get a passport photo.
“I went to the Sylvania Library yesterday to get a passport photo, and she looked at the paperwork that I had and said, ‘I hope you didn’t pay them any money,’” Lynn said. “That’s when I learned that this is not the government.”…
