‘You are being surveilled’ | Commissioner Pete Gerken cites 904K searches of Lucas County Flock data in one-month period

LUCAS COUNTY, Ohio — Lucas County Commissioner Pete Gerken officially called Tuesday morning for an immediate pause on the use of Flock license plate reader cameras in Lucas County.

Speaking at a news conference outside the commissioners’ chambers at One Government Center, Gerken presented findings from a research report prepared for his office based on a one-month audit of the county’s Flock camera system.

“I understand that Flock safety cameras can and should be used as a legitimate law enforcement tool,” Gerken said. “I’m not asking for the tool to be dismantled, I’m asking for it to be regulated. This is mass surveillance of data at large scale.”…
